About National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunities to students to participate in various community service activities & programs. The sole aim of NSS is to provide hands-on experience to young students in delivering community service and building a sense of social responsibility.

History of NSS in Our Institute

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a scheme run by the Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It provides students opportunities to serve society, community, and the nation through voluntary activities.

NSS started at the Higher Education level in 1969, and in the same year, our college introduced and implemented NSS with a view to serving the society. Dr. P. I. Patel took the responsibility as the first NSS Programme Officer, later becoming the Principal of the college. He served as Programme Officer for 17 years.

After him, Prof. K. K. Patel, Prof. V. S. Patel, Prof. P. K. Patel, Dr. D. H. Goswami, Prof. V. J. Vaidh, Prof. J. K. Joshi, Prof. Kamal Dave, Prof. V. G. Patel, Prof. K. C. Mevada and others took the responsibility as Programme Officers, diligently offering their service for NSS.

Initially, one NSS unit with 50 students was allotted, later expanded to three units with 150 students. At present, 100 students are part of the NSS unit, actively participating in social awareness and community welfare programs.

The NSS Badge — Proud to Serve the Nation

NSS Badge

All youth volunteers who opt to serve the nation through NSS-led community service wear the NSS badge with pride and a deep sense of responsibility towards helping those in need.

The Konark Wheel in the badge, having 8 bars, signifies the 24 hours of the day — reminding every volunteer to be ready for service to the nation at all times.

Red colour in the badge signifies the energy and spirit displayed by NSS volunteers, while the Blue colour represents the cosmos, of which NSS is a small part — always ready to contribute its share for the welfare of humankind.
